Death at Hi Point: did a city authorized non- working
intercom system delay first responders at Hi Point St?
The resident manager has been less than responsive on tenant concerns and complaints. For the most part, emails, letters, fed-ex, phone calls do not get a response from her. I am cordial if I see her on the property and I say hello and she keeps on walking and does not respond. However my roommate did ask her what happened and she said she could not comment because there are conflicting stories. I know she lives next door to the unit where it may have happened but I am still not sure of the tenant’s name (male) or if they were a tenant.
First responders and family members seem to have had some difficulty getting into the building due to a non-working intercom system, an intercom system which I have complained about for years. Later, family members and friends were temporarily trapped in the parking area (false imprisonment) because no one had the key to open the security gate. This is the second apparent suicide in this building in about 3 years. Some secure parking lots have a separate door entry/exit in case the security gate does not open because in case of fire, tenants and/or guests may be trapped; this building does not have such safety device.
See picture of candles vigil outside the location.

Reference: the city government approved the installation of the keypad intercom system in 2015.
“I just moved out from there on the 1st. It was probably the people in 12. I was below them and they would have endless parties and get high all night. Non stop partying and fighting. Can’t believe someone died there.” GB as seen on Next Door.

Since I saw the coroner vehicle, that is all the info I have. See attached picture. Some heard a commotion at 3 in the morning, so this is presumed to be a crime victim.
FYI the timber clad lettering at the front of the building has been repaired. See picture. The intercom numbering has been replaced, but the three intercoms not working have not been repaired. It is a false and deceptive business practice to give the appearance that the intercom system is fully functioning.
God Bless the person who may have died.
In times like these when police need to enter the building, it is critical there is a working intercom system.
